Secrets of high-quality lighting

To make the right choice of a led lamp, pay attention to the following characteristics:

luminous flux
light pulsation
color rendering index
color temperature

Light flux

This is the amount of light the luminaire gives out. Manufacturers often deliberately overestimate this figure, in reality it may not be the same as stated.

How to test - turn it on and test it.

Pulsation of light

We don’t notice the frequent flickering of light, since a light pulsation up to 35% is not visible to a person. However, the presence of a pulsation of light affects the well-being of a person, his fatigue, concentration and increases tiredness.

The ripple factor of the luminous flux is usually specified by the manufacturer. In high-quality LED lamps, manufacturers note the minimum ripple coefficient. 1-1.5

How to check: with a special device or in two simple ways:

Turn on your cell phone camera and look through it at the light. There should be no stripes on the screen.

Or, swirl a long object (such as a pencil) in front of the lamp.
If the contours of a pencil are blurred, there are no ripples, if you see "several pencils" there is a visible ripple and such a poor quality light.

Color rendering index (Ra)

shows how faithfully the light source displays the colors of the illuminated objects compared to daylight. The more visible the difference, the lower the color rendering index. For high-quality LED fixtures, this index should be at least 85. Although manufacturers may note a high color rendering index, in reality it can be lower.

How to check: pay attention to the skin tone of the hand under the light. If the color is grayish, the lamp has a low color rendering index.

Color temperature

The choice of this indicator depends on the purpose of the lighting and the design idea. Warm light is installed for residential premises, restaurants, recreation areas. White light is used in lighting offices, commercial premises. Neutral light - in showrooms, shops. Cold - in supermarkets, hospitals, educational institutions. And daylight - in galleries, museums and jewelry stores.

Choose the color temperature of the fixtures that will harmoniously fit into the space and emphasize its advantages.

After choosing the desired color temperature, pay attention to this indicator in the context of several lamps.

It often happens that the same temperature is indicated on the lamps, but the light is different.

This is due to the manufacturing quality of the LED and variations in colors within the series.

Color variation is measured by the color matching standard deviation.(SDCM). The SDCM unit means that there is no visible difference in the colors of this series of LEDs.

A good manufacturer strictly ensures that color temperature deviations do not exceed 7 SDCM.
